5 Things You Need To Know Before You Hire A Skip

If you have a fair amount of garden waste or general household waste to get rid of, there’s no better solution than hiring a skip. With the help of a skip, you can get rid of all your waste in an easy, efficient and affordable manner.

However, if you have never hire a skip before, you probably don’t know any tips to ensure you get what you need at a good price. Don’t worry; I’m here to help you out.

Today, we’ll take a look at some of the things you need to know before you hire a skip.

1. What type of skip should I hire?

Firstly, know that you cannot dump any-old-thing in a skip. There are specific types of skip bins that cater to different types of waste. Furthermore, there are certain waste materials that are prohibited from being dumped in skips.

If you’re looking to remove general household waste or mixed waste, you should hire a junk skip. On the other hand, if you’re looking to remove garden waste, you should hire a garden skip. You cannot dump chemical waste, construction waste and other heavy waste materials using a skip.

2. What size skip do I need?

Depending on the amount of waste you’re looking to remove, you should hire a skip of the proper size. Skip bins are available in various sizes ranging from as small as 2m³ and going up to 6m³ and you can hire them to remove as much as 12m³ of waste.

If you hire too large a skip, you’ll unnecessarily be paying extra, and if you hire too small a skip, you’ll need to hire a second one to get rid of all your waste, which could cost you as much as double! However, if you choose our skips, you won’t face this problem. That’s because our skips are available in a standard ‘one-size-fits-all’ policy – we charge you only for the amount of waste you fill in the skip. We’re nice like that J.

3. Where can I place a skip?

When it comes to delivery of a skip… and more importantly, the placement of the skip, it’s a good idea to get it as close as possible to the area that holds the waste. E.g. if you’re doing a shed clean-out, place it by the shed. If you’re cleaning out your home, place it close to the largest exit like the garage. This will make it easier for you to dump waste into the skip. It is not recommended to place a skip out on the road as by-passers will dump their waste into it (and you may also need to get a council permit).

If you’re worried that a skip won’t be able to be placed on your premises due to space constraints, you needn’t worry. Our mini skips are smaller in size than the large-sized skips offered by other companies. We use mini trucks to transport our skips, and we can ensure delivering it to your premises.

4. How long can I keep a skip?

Most skip hire companies in Brisbane, including us, offer skips on a standard 7-day hire. This means that once a skip is delivered to your premises, you will have six days to dump waste into it. On the 7th day, the company will collect the skip from you.

In case you need to hire a skip for longer, you can always do so by paying an additional fee which is $50 per extra day and $50 fee per additional 100kg.

5. How much does skip hire cost?

Finally, before you hire a skip, make sure that you understand the costs involved. Some companies are not transparent with their pricing, and you should avoid them.

Our all-inclusive skip hire prices start from as low as $275 for a standard 7-day hire. You can find out everything else you need to know about our skip hire on this page.

Conclusion:

There are certain things you need to know before you hire a skip. Ensure that you know what type of skip to hire. Always hire a skip of the proper size to avoid overpaying. Make sure to place a skip on your premises and not out on the road. Consider if you need to hire a skip longer than the standard 7-day period. Finally, make sure to understand the skip hire costs before placing an order.
